Readar

This is a toolset that allows users to gather statistics on bodies of text. It takes an input text and outputs statistics about each sentence.

Each body of work has it's own internal meter based on the rhetorical situation and writer. Writer's can use this tool to find subvocal pauses within their own writing to ensure consistent meter.

What Readar does

Readar parses text and provides a numerical analyses of the body of text.

  • Gathers information about a the composition of syllables and words within each sentence.

  • Provides syllable-to-word ("breath unit") statistics.

  • Provides a visual representation of the composition over the length of the text body.

What Readar does not do

Readar has a number of assumptions and edge cases that have not been integrated.

  • Readar does not currently account for complex sentences or non-word characters such as "?", ":", ";", or commas. In future revisions these characters will delimit their own sub-sentences.

  • Syllables are measured without any flexibility.

  • All calculations are limited to two significant figures for simplicity.

  • Readar does not tell you how to revise a body of text, Readar provides data for interpretation.

  • Readar performs better with larger data sets.
